• There are all kinds of activities happening in the library! If you have a book cover to enter in the contest, that needs to be turned in today—see Ms. Metcalf if you need more time. March is bringing us READ ACROSS AMERICA in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday. All this week, come to the library to take a guess in the “One Fish, Two Fish” estimating challenge. One guess per person. There will be a prize for the closest guess in each grade.

  • March Book Madness will also be starting soon. Pick up your bracket from the library after Tuesday. Brackets must be turned in before voting begins in order to be eligible for prizes, but everyone can vote! Stay tuned for more information!

  • All NHD competitors are REQUIRED to attend NHD Club today, Tuesday, in room 222. All websites, documentaries, exhibits, and performances MUST attend club today after school.

  • Belshaw received my undergraduate degree from California State University, Fullerton in 1990. (I went on to do my graduate work at UW, Cal Poly, Pomona and City U.)
    • The school mascot is Tuffy the Titan (an elephant)

The reason for the mascot being an elephant dates back to 1962 when the campus hosted the First Intercollegiate Elephant Race in human history. The May 11th event attracted 10,000 spectators, 15 elephant entries, a telegram from Richard M. Nixon, and worldwide news coverage.
