• Interested in Coding? RMS is starting a Girls Who Code club. No experience? No worries!  Girls Who Code offers a wide range of computer science activities. We are trying to find a time to meet student’s needs.  Please stop by RM. 160 in Doug Fir before school to express your interest or email cdowling@lwsd.org with GWC in the subject line.

  • Students are you interested in participating in a Student Group? Do you like Robotics or coding? Interested in drawing? Maybe you enjoy Role Playing Games. All of these and many more student groups are here at RMS, did you know that on the RMS website there is a complete list of Student Groups and where they meet? Check it out and if you have any questions you can email the groups advisors. If there is a Group that you would like to have that is not yet created find a teacher that is willing to be the advisor and then see Mr. Mahendran in Portable 1 for more information.

  • Students did you know that for the month of September you can get a free breakfast every day? Stop in the commons when you come to school and check out all the options.

  • Are you interested in the art of group storytelling by creating and playing characters in an imaginary world? Interested in learning more about Dungeons and Dragons, FATE, or other Role-Playing games? Then the RMS RPG club might be for you. If you would like to join, or have questions about Role Playing Games, then please come to an interest meeting after school, in Ms. Morris’ room, room 153. Please email or see Ms. Morris if you have questions on how to get involved.

This week we are talking about Gonzaga University, where Mr. Williams got his Masters degree. Gonzaga is in Spokane and has about 7,500 students. It offers programs in Business, Biology, Communications, Computer Science, Education, Engineering, Literature, Linguistics, History, Legal, and Liberal arts. Gonzaga has a Basketball team, Baseball Team and Cross Country and Track teams and a large Intramural sports program, there are also a large amount of clubs and groups to participate in like dance, choir, theater, newspaper, radio and other. Some of Mr. Williams fondest memories are from his time at Gonzaga. Some highlights:

  • Mr. Williams served as special assistant to the men’s basketball team. When players stepped in gum on campus one of his most important responsibilities was cleaning the gum off of the bottom of their shoes so they could play.
  • Mr. Williams was such a high achiever at Gonzaga that he worked as the Bulldogs mascot, played flute in the marching band and DJ’d the postgame party of all home football games.
  • Mr. Williams has won multiple baking contests with his national award winning Gonzaga Bulldogs cupcakes with his secret family recipe for fudge.
  • Mr. Williams fondest memory from college was competing in the Bing Crosby “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” singing contest and taking 2nd place.
  • Williams contributed to his school by volunteering to be the rodeo clown for the Gonzaga Rodeo team.
